Big inning powers Purple Eagles to win over rival Mustangs
A big early inning eight run scoring burst keyed Albion to an 11-3 victory over visiting Medina this afternoon in a rainy Niagara-Orleans League baseball game.
Maintaining a two game league lead, Albion completes a busy four victory week to improve to 9-1 while Medina slips to 8-4.
Leading by a narrow 3-2 margin, Albion erupted for eight runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run double by John Krieger, two-run singles by Noah Preston and Aaron Burnside and an RBI single by Steven Stauss.Dominic DiCureia and Trey Hart also both contributed singles to the uprising.
Medina had grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Justin Morgan. A walk and a single by Matt Riemer set up the threat. Morgan also drove in Medina’s only other run with a seventh inning single.
The Mustangs though left the bases loaded in the first as Albion hurler Connor Barleben got out of the jam with a clutch inning ending strikeout.
However, Albion answer back with three runs in the second inning on a double by Barleben, singles by Stauss and Hart and an error to take the lead for good at 3-2.
Medina got two runners aboard in the third after a walk and a single by Riemer but Barleben again got out of trouble with a strikeout. The Mustangs also got the bases loaded in the fourth but could not capitalize.
Barleben allowed four hits and struck out eight in five innings of work. Austin Loyd came on to hurl the final two frames allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
Akron 11, Wilson 1
Akron improved to 8-3 with an 11-1 victory over visiting Wilson as Steve Borowczyk picked up the win on the mound striking out nine.
Noah Diebel had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Roy-Hart vs. Newfane, suspended
Roy-Hart and Newfane were locked in a scoreless deadlock when rain halted caused a suspension of play in the fourth inning.
Roy-Hart was 8-3 in N-O action coming into the game while Newfane is at 4-6.
