Scoring on their first three possessions, the Bennett Tigers roared to a 46-14 victory over the Medina Mustangs this evening in a B North Division game at Vets Park.

Bennett grabbed a quick 8-0 lead at the outset on a 1 yard run by Andrew White and a two-point conversion carry by Isaiah McDuffie.

Medina though answered right back with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Tom Follman from quarterback Jason Hellwig who added the two-point converse carry himself to knot the contest at 8-8. Brett Pecoraro ignited that drive with a 40 yard run and a 15 yard pass reception from Hellwig.

Medina then got the ball right back in Bennett territory on a fumble recovery by Devin Joy. However, the Mustangs could not capitalize as the Tigers regained possession, and momentum, three plays later via a pass interception.

Capitalizing on the turnover, Bennett quickly regained the lead for good at 16-8 on a 18 yard touchdown run by McDuffie and a two-point converse reception by Brandon Brown with 2:12 to go in the opening period. A big 50 yard pass reception by Alexander Lofton set up that score.

The Tigers boosted the lead to 24-8 early in the second quarter as a 30 yard run by McDuffie set up a 3 yard touchdown carry by White.

Medina did drive to the Bennett 4 yard line just before halftime but the Mustangs were stopped on downs. Runs of 20 yards by Joy and 12 by Pecoraro along with pass completions by Hellwig to Ty Hrovat of 13 and 10 yards keyed that drive.

Bennett then broke the contest wide open with two unanswered third quarter touchdowns. White scored on a 20 yard run and Brown on a one yard TD carry to boost the Tigers advantage to 38-8.

Brown tacked on a 11 yard touchdown run with 7:45 to go in the fourth quarter to make it 46-8.

Medina’s only other touchdown came just over a minute later when a 40 yard run by Pecoraro helped set up a 27 yard Hellwig to Pecoraro scoring pass.

The Medina defensive unit got a pass interception by Chase Pecoraro.

The loss drops Medina to 1-1 in the division while Bennett is 1-0 in the division and 2-0 overall.
