Batavia surges past Albion

A big 26-6 scoring edge over the middle two periods keyed Batavia to a 46-31 victory over host Albion this evening in a season opening non league girls basketball game.

Trailing 10-9, Batavia broke the game open with a big 17-2 second quarter scoring surge to move out to a 26-12 halftime advantage.

Keeping the momentum, Batavia outpointed Albion 9-4 in the third period to extend the advantage to 35-16 heading into the final stanza.

Tiara Filbert scored 14 and Essence Williams 13 to lead the Batavia attack.

Chanyce Powell scored 10 and Kelsee Soule 8 to lead Albion which next hosts Elba on December 9.

Batavia: Myers 4, Williams 13, Filbert 14, Cecere 8, McCulley 9, Total 46
Albion: Soule 8, Powell 10, Nauden 4, Raglan 3, Allen 2, Metzler 4, Total 31.
Batavia: 9-17-9-11 = 46
Albion: 10-2-4-15 = 31
