Batavia nips Albion for tourney title

All of the scoring took place in the first half as Batavia edged past Albion 2-1 this evening in the championship game of the Holley girls soccer tournament.

Batavia jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Maggie Cecere scored with 23 minutes to go in the first half.

Albion though answered right back with the equalizer just over two minutes later when Brylie Hapeman scored at 20:57.

However, the Purple Eagles could not find the net again and Batavia scored what proved to be the game winner on a shot by Allison Moore with 6:12 to go in the opening half.

Albion goalie Isabella Prest had a busy night making no less than 21 saves.

Albion’s Brylie Hapeman and Batavia’s Claire Zicki in close quarters working to advance the ball.

Now at 1-2, Albion next visits Newfane Tuesday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Holley 1, Greece Olympia 1 (OT)
Host Holley battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Greece Olympia in the consolation game.

Haylee Passarell scored Holley’s goal in the second half off an assist from Kayleigh Neale.

Holley next hosts rival Kendall on Wednesday in a Genesee Region League game.
Boys Soccer
Newfane 8, Roy-Hart 0
Exploding for three goals in the first nine minutes, defending champion Newfane went on to blank host Roy-Hart 8-0 today in a Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game.

Trevor Moreland and Mateo May each netted a pair of goals to lead a parade of six Panther scorers.

Newfane is now 2-0 and Roy-Hart 0-1 in N-O action.
