Barre tops St. Mary’s in Midget League opener
In the first game of the 2019 Albion Midget League season Barre defeated St. Mary’s 13-3 on Saturday.
A strong pitching performance from both teams kept the game close at 5-3 until Barre errupted for 8 runs in the final inning. A leadoff single by Makenzie Snook, a single from Nathan Gibson and a home run by Josh Bovenzi highlighted the inning.
Bovenzi’s last inning HR completed the cycle as he went 4 for 5 on the day with single, triple, double and HR. Gibson finished with 2 hits. Oliver Beach and Myles Beach also contributed hits for Barre.
Bovenzi and Gibson combined for 17 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits.
Mason Giattino had 2 of St. Mary’s hits and Blake Preston added the third hit. Preston had 8 strikeouts on the mound for St. Mary’s and Jack Kinter 6 strikeouts as they shared pitching duties.
