Barre tops Sandstone to hold two game lead

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Barre’s Cami London bangs out a triple during this evening’s Albion Midget League win over visiting Sandstone.

Undefeated front-running Barre bested visiting Sandstone 14-2  this evening to maintain a two game lead atop the Albion Midget League standings.

Josh Bovenzi, who picked up the win on the mound also had a big night at the plate belting a two-run triple in the first inning and a three-run  home run in the second to help spark Barre out to a big 6-1 lead.

Keeping the momentum, Barre broke the contest wide open by adding five runs in the third as Cami London and Zach Vancott both banged out triples.

Cencere Lowe and Emma Shay both had triples on the evening for Sandstone.

Barre stays undefeated at 5-0 while Sandstone slips  to 3-3.

In their previous two games Barre downed Vets and Carlton.

Barre 7 – Vets 0

A complete game shutout from Nathan Gibson helped the Barre Cubs defeat the Vets 7-0.  A triple by Ryan Dunn and single by Caleb Colucci were the only hits allowed by Gibson. Dunn also shared pitching duties with Brody Vercruysse for the Vets.  A home run by Bovenzi, 2 singles by Lucas Martin, and singles by Owen Bentley and Gibson produced the runs for Barre.

Barre 14 – Carlton 8

A high scoring game was highlighted by a two run home run from Finn McCue in the first inning and a Grandslam by Drew Boyce in the third inning for Carlton.  Dominic Jurs added a double and two singles for the Clippers going 3 for 4 on the night.

At the plate for Barre, a multi-hit game was turned in by Bentley, Gibson, Jacob Neal and Mason Snook.  Each of them contributed two hits a piece for the Cubs.

Barre’s Josh Bovenzi, left, and Sandstone’s Seth Krenning were starting mound opponents. Bozenzi also had a big game at the plate.
