Barre scores two Albion Midget League wins

Barre downed Carlton 16-3 and St. Mary’s 12-11 this past week to improve to 5-3 in Albion Midget League competition.

Josh Bovenzi allowed only 4 hits and struck out 11 in six innings of work for Barre in  the win over Carlton.

At the plate for Barre, Bovenzi was 3 for 3. Nathan Gibson, Jason Conn, Jacob Neal, and Zach Vancott had 2 hits each.  Conn’s hits included a grand slam home run.

Dylan Narburgh went 3 for 3 for Carlton, including a double, and Dominic Jurs added the other hit.

Barre had another strong pitching performance against St. Mary’s as Conn struck out 13 over 5 innings and Bovenzi closed the game by striking out 3 batters in a row, stranding the tying and winning runs on base.

Gibson went 4 for 4, including two doubles for Barre. Bovenzi, Lucas Martin and Nick Harling had 2 hits each.

Nick Radder was 4 for 4 at the plate for St Mary’s with a home run that reached the 300-foot fence at St. Mary’s. He also had 2 doubles. Blake Preston added a triple.

Sandstone 7, Vets 4

Sandstone scored three times in the third inning on doubles by Seth Krenning and Nick Martino and then took the lead for good in the fourth on a two-run single by Krenning.

Vets closed to within one in the fifth on a two-run single by Brandon Nashburn but Sandstone got those back in the sixth as Elliott Trapiss doubled to help lock up the win. Earlier, Nashburn had a double to highlight a two-run third inning.

Krenning and Martino both had 2 hits for Sandstone as did Nashburn and Bryer Dysard for Vets.

Carlton 11, Sandstone 9

A big 8 run fifth inning uprising, which included hits by Dylan Narburgh and Lee Fleck, keyed the win for Carlton.

Sandstone scored 5 in the fourth as Martino had a home run, Cencere Lowe a triple and John Eibl a single.

Fleck and Caden Wilson both had 3 hits for Carlton.

Vets 7, Rotary 5

Nashburn had a two-run double and John Bianchi a two-run single to lead the way for Vets.  Nashburn also registered 14 strikeouts in 5 inning of work on the mound.

In the completion of a make-up game, Rotary edged Vets 16-15.
