Barre, Sandstone, Vets post Midget wins

Barre downed Rotary-Lions 14-4, Sandstone trimmed St. Mary’s 8-7 and Vets downed Carlton 11-4 in Albion Midget Baseball League action this past week.

Nathan Gibson threw a complete game for Barre with 11 strikeouts and scattered just 6 hits over the 6 innings. He also added a HR and a single at the plate.

Jason Conn went 4 for 4 and Owen Bentley 3 or 3 for Barre, each hitting a double.

At the plate for Rotary-Lions, Xavier Byrd went 4 for 4 with all four RBI’s, including a 3 run bomb over the left field fence in the final inning. Byrd scored Jacob Edwards in the 1st inning after Edwards reached on a double.  Garrett Miller add the other hit for Rotary.

Sandstone scored twice in the sixth inning on one hit and four walks to edge St. Mary’s and stay unbeaten at 6-0.

Nick Martino had a home run, Nolan Sullivan a three-run, bases loaded double and  Emma Shay an RBI single to lead the Sandstone offense.  Shay and Elliot Tripass both had 2 hits.

Jack Kinter had a three-run homer and an RBI single to set the pace for St. Mary’s.

Brandon Nashburn notched 16 strikeouts on the mound for Vets in the win over Carlton. He also banged out 3 hits and drove in 5 runs.

John Bianchi and Brody Vercruysse both added 2 hits for Vets. Bianchi’s hits included a two-run double.

Lee Fleck had a three-run double and Finn McCue an RBI triple for Carlton.

Standings: Sandstone 6-0, Carlton 3-3, Barre 3-3, St. Mary’s 2-3, Vets 2-4, Rotary 1-4.
