Barre, Sandstone and St. Mary’s score two wins in Albion Midget League action

Barre defeated Carlton 18-0 and Rotary 6-3, Sandstone downed Vets 15-3 and St. Mary’s 9-6 and St. Mary’s topped Rotary twice by scores of 10-9 and 8-6 in Albion Midget League action this past week.
Front running Barre kept rolling by besting Carlton as Brad Martin struck out 9 and allowed only 3 hits over 5 inning.
Nate Gibson led the Barre offense with 2 doubles and a triple as Josh Bovenzi, Tyler Gibson and Cade Wolcott also all had multiple hits.
Barre broke the game open with a big 6 run fifth frame which included doubles by Wolcott and Nate Gibson.
Tyler Gibson drove in a total of 5 runs with an RBI single in the third inning and a grand slam home run in the fourth to lead Barre past Rotary.
Bovenzi also had three hits.
On the mound, Tyler Gibson and Wolcott combined to hurl a 3 hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Jake Hughson had 4 hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning, Caleb Fox 4 hits, including a pair of two-run doubles in the first and third frames and Elliott Trapiss 3 hits to spark Sandstone past Vets.
Chris Sacco picked up the win on the mound striking out 10.
Adrian Kingdollar had 2 home runs and Bobby Dysard 1 for Vets.
Sandstone built up an early 5-1 lead over St. Mary’s as Caleb Fox had a home run and Cencere Lowe a triple to key a 4 run first inning and Caden Uderitz added a solo homer in the second.
St. Mary’s rallied back to within one at 7-6 as Tommy Fox drove in 3 runs in the fifth.
Sandstone though answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame as Uderitz tripled and Sacco singled to lock up the win.
Uderitz, Fox, Sacco and Trapiss each had 2 hits for Sandstone.
St. Mary’s and the Rotary Lions on Thursday finished an 8-8 tie game from May 30. Rotary scored a run in the top of seventh, and St. Mary’s followed with 2 runs to win it. Jayce Ashton had an RBI single to make it 9-9, and Nick Radder brought in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk. Radder also got the win on the mound.
The teams then played their regularly scheduled game with Rotary jumping out to a 6-run lead after 2 innings, as Simon Ellison had the big hit, a high flyball double. Ashton came on in relief for St. Mary’s and didn’t allow any more runs, striking out 10 in 4 1/3 innings.
Ashton also cleared the bases with a 3-run double to get St. Mary’s back in the game. Radder added an RBI double and Christian Swiercznski tied the game with a two-run double in the top of the sixth. Reuben Rivers put St. Mary’s ahead with a 2-run homer over the centerfield fence that broke a windshield.
Rotary had a strong pitching outing from Dallas Ecker and several sparkling defensive plays at shortstop by Jacob Edwards.
