Barre rallies late twice for two Midget League wins; Sandstone rebounds for win to hold lead

The home team’s last at bats helped the Barre Cubs score two big come from behind wins this past week and Albion Midget League action.

First, a home run by Nathan Gibson, double by Owen Bentley, and game winning single by Nick Harling plated 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth to push Barre past Sandstone by a score of 11-10.

A base clearing double by Emma Shay had put Sandstone ahead by 4 in the top of the sixth.

Seth Krenning, Nick Martino and Cencere Lowe also had key hits for Sandstone.

Cami London bangs out a hit for Barre.

For Barre, Gibson went 4 for 4 on the day. Cami London, Jason Conn, Josh Bovenzi, Oliver Beach and Zach Vancott had big hits for Barre.

Then another last inning rally helped Barre defeat Vets by a score of 17-16.

Bovenzi went 3 for 3 with a home run and Conn 3 for 3 with a triple and game winning single for Barre.

London added a double and single and Harling a triple for Barre.

A grand slam home run by Bryer Dysard had helped put Vets in the lead the previous inning.  Dysard added a triple earlier in the game and ended the night with 4 hits.

John Bianchi and Brody Vercruysse had 3 hits each for Vets, while Brandon Nashburn, Hunter Lonnen and Ryan Dunn each had 2 hits.

Barre is now 7-3

Sandstone did rebound by rallying late to nip Rotary 11-10 and maintain a hold on the league lead at 8-2.

Sandstone pulled out the win by scoring once in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Elliot Trapiss to snap a 10-10 tie. Trapiss finished with 2 hits as did Lowe who had a grad slam home run to key a 5 run second inning.

Jacob Edwards had a big day at the plate for Rotary belting home runs to key a three-run first inning and a five-run second frame. He later hit and RBI triple in the top of the sixth to knot the contest at 10-10.

Sandstone had taken a 10-9 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Krenning and a sacrifice by Shay.
