Barre has close call but keeps rolling

Undefeated (13-0) Barre wrapped up top regular season Albion Midget League honors by downing Vets 18-3 and then nipping Rotary 4-3 this past week.

Rotary also posted an 8-5 win over runner-up Sandstone which rebounded by blanking St. Mary’s 8-0.

Brad Martin had a two-run single to highlight a three-run first inning which ignited Barre to the win over Vets.  Martin, Jason Conn and Tyler Gibson all had multiple hit games. Martin also picked up the win on he mound allowing 5 hits and striking out 6 over 4 innings.

Barre then edged past Rotary as Cade Wolcott hit a home run in the fifth inning to snap a 3-3 tie.  Gibson earned the win allowing 3 hits and striking of 11.

Jacob Edwards, Mason Bennett and Simon Ellison each had a pair of hits for Rotary.

Edwards also had a big two-run triple and Bennett a two-run double to lead Rotary past Sandstone as Dallas Ecker also had 2 hits.

Jake Hughson and Chris Sacoo both had 3 hits for Sandstone.

Caleb Fox hurled a 4 hit shutout with 14 strikeouts in Sandstone’s win over St. Mary’s. Sacco and Kyle VanAmeron both banged out 3 hits and Hughson 2.  VanAmeron and Hughson both had triples.

In one other game reported Carlton outlasted St. Mary’s 10-7 on Tuesday.

The game was tied at 7 going into the sixth. Carlton had two batters get walks, and then Dylan Narburgh ripped a double to bring them both home in the final inning.

Carlton had a nice pitching effort from Isaac Napierala, who struck out 8 batters over six innings.

Bryce Wilson also had 3 hits for Carlton, including a triple.

Christian Swiercznski led the St. Mary’s offense with 3 hits, including a double and triple, while Reuben Rivers also had two hits, including a triple. Nick Radder also had 2 hits. Jayce Ashton was solid on the mound in relief for St. Mary’s.
