Barre Cubs win U10 opener; Blue Jays win 6th

The Barre Cubs 10u baseball team opened their season on Monday with a 13-3 win over the visiting Rotary-Lions.

Josh Bovenzi and Nathan Gibson combined for 10 strikeouts and no hits on the mound for Barre.

Lucas Powley, Leah Pawlak and Xavier Byrd shared the pitching duties for Rotary-Lions.

At the plate, Bovenzi, Owen Bentley and Jacob Neal each had two hits on the night.  Cami London and Lucas Martin also had hits for Barre.

The Woodroe Realty Blue Jays remained unbeaten at 6 -0 by beating the VFW Cubs 6-0 Tuesday night.

The game went through the first 3 innings scoreless when the top of the fourth the Cubs were threatening to score when Jimmy Dieter caught a pop fly in right center field and threw the ball to Brody Fry at first base for a nice double play that ended the inning.

The Blue Jays bats awoke in the fourth with 7 singles and 1 double and scored 6 runs.

Fry lead batting with a single and a double and 2 RBI’s, Carter Woodworth had a single and a double with 1 RBI, Preston Woodworth 2 singles, Steven Gobeli  2 hits and 1 RBI, Aidan Papaj and Joseph Reese both had a hit and 1 RBI and Dieter, and Brady Christaansen each added a hit.

Fry pitched 3 strong innings and had 4 strikeouts, Papaj pitched 2 innings and had 2 strikeouts, and Christaansen pitched the final inning and struck out all 3 batters.
