Barre bests Sandstone in key Albion Midget League game

Undefeated Barre outlasted visiting Sandstone 15-10 this past week in a key Albion Midget League game.

Trailing 10-7, Barre rallied with a big seven run fifth inning scoring burst to regain the lead for good. A triple by Kyle Pappalardo highlighted that uprising which also included hits by Zander Meakin and Colby Ferchen.

Earlier, Barre got a three-run homer by Alex Gibson in the third inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Sandstone answered with a five-run fourth inning to take a 10-7 lead as Bailey Blanchard hit a three-run homer.

Sandstone also scored four times in the third inning highlighted by a two-run double by Christian Doty.

Ferchen had a total of 5 hits, Meakin 4 and Pappalardo 3 with 5 RBIs for Barre which improves to 11-0. Meakin and Gibson also shared in the pitching chores.

Pat Ricker and Blanchard both had two hits and Doty 2 RBIs for Sandstone which slips to 7-3.

Barre also posted a win over Actives while Sandstone dropped a 10-2 decision to Rotary in their other games.

Marcos Valasquez and Zaire Reed combined to hurl a two hitter for Rotary which improves to 7-3.

Valasquez also had 3 hits while Reed, Dominic Burton and Ryan Krenning each had 2. Burton’s hits included a three-run homer.

Actives earned a split on the week by downing Rotary 8-5 to go to 6-4.

Vets scored a pair of wins on the week nipping St. Mary’s 2-1 and downing Holley to go to 5-6.

Bobby Dysard hit a two-run single to account for Vets scoring in the narrow win over St. Mary’s as Thomas Furmanski registered 17 strikeouts.

Furmanski also had a three-run homer and Dysard a two-run double in the win over Holley.

Standings: Barre 11-0, Sandstone 7-3, Rotary 7-3, Actives 6-4, Vets 5-6, Carlton 3-7, St. Mary’s 2-9, Holley 0-9.
