A quick two touchdown scoring burst early in the fourth quarter keyed Barker/Roy-Hart to a 23-14 victory over host Newfane this afternoon in a non league football game.

Leading by a narrow 9-6 margin, Barker/Roy-Hart scored twice within a span of just over two minutes as quarterback Jake Bruning completed touchdown passes of 34 yards to Eddie Wasnock with 11:53 to go in the fourth and of 33 yards to Malik Smith with 9:15 remaining to make it 23-6 as Noah Rocklein added both extra point kicks. An interception by Eric Fitch set up the second TD.

Newfane did answer back with a 5 yard touchdown run by Zach Brown and a two-point conversion carry to make it 23-14.

Newfane got the ball right back by recovering the ensuing on side kick and the Panthers drove to the Barker/Roy-Hart 10.

However, that comeback bid was ended as Bruning came up with a clutch interception for Barker/Roy-Hart in the end zone with 2:49 remaining to help lock up the win.

Newfane did grab a 6-0 first quarter lead on a 7 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Gross to Albert Kramp.

Barker/Roy-Hart though battled back to knot the contest at 6-6 in the second quarter on a 2 yard touchdown run by Wasnock. A 23 yard pass from Wasnock to Nick Fazzolari and a 10 yard run by Smith highlighted the drive.

Barker/Roy-Hart then took the lead for good at 9-6 on a 33 yard field goal by Rocklein as time expired in the first half.

Tim Maines had 10 tackles and Fazzolari 7 tackles and a sack for Barker/Roy-Hart.

Barker/Roy-Hart improves to 2-3 and Newfane slips to 0-5.
