Barker trims Medina in N-O field hockey

A pair of late first half goals off corner opportunites keyed Barker to a 3-0 victory over Medina in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game this afternoon at Vets Park.

Grayce Weller broke a scoreless deadlock for Barker by scoring with 11:11 remaining in the first half off an assist from Erika Moeller.

Madison Greenwald then added a huge insurance goal, again off a corner, with no time remaining in the first half as Lydia Dewart earned the assist.

It remained a close 2-0 game until Natalie Menz scored with just 1:43 remaining in the second half for the Lady Raiders off an assist fro Erin Greenwald.

Caitlyn Mason and Courtney Bodine shared in earning the shutout in the cage for the Lady Raiders.

Barker is now 4-1-1 in N-O action and Medina 1-5.

Barker’s Katrina Clare and Medina’s Michaela Cardone battle to gain control of the ball.

Akron 2, Wilson 0

A quick goal just two minutes in by Abby Stone sparked front-running Akron to a 2-0 victory over visiting Wilson in the key N-O game of the day.

Heather Cummings added a big insurance tally for the Lady Tigers 15 minutes into the opening half.

Akron finishes the first half of the N-O season at 6-0 while Wilson slips into a tie for second place with Barker at 4-1-1.

Newfane 1, Kenmore 0

Newfane made a lone first half goal by Katie Kneeland stand up for a 1-0 victory over Kenmore.

Newfane is now 2-4 and Kenmore 0-6.
