One goal early and another late earned defending champion Barker a key 2-0 win over visiting Roy-Hart this afternoon as the Lady Raiders opened up a two game lead at the halfway point of the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey title race.

Ciara Gregoire scored what proved to be the game winning goal for Barker just 3:24 into the first half off an assist from Katrina Clare.

The Lady Raiders then got a big insurance goal when Clare scored off an assist from Rachel Hurtgam with just 11:10 remaining in the second half.

Courtney Hillman made 5 saves to earn the shutout in goal for Barker.

The victory keeps Barker unbeaten at 6-0 in N-O competition while Roy-Hart slips to 4-2 and into a tie for second place with Akron.

In other N-O action, Medina battled to a 2-2 tie with host Wilson that went to a shootout.

Abby Blount and Grace Cook scored the Medina goals in the shootout after the teams had battled to a scoreless deadlock through 60 minutes of regulation play and a 7 of 7 10 minute overtime period.

Medina is now 3-2-1 and Wilson 2-3-1.

Kenmore (1-5) gained its first win of the year by downing Newfane (0-6) 4-1 as Jessica Bothan scored the three goal hat-trick.
