Barker tops Pine Valley in Class D opener
Leading most all the way No. 10 seed Barker defeated host No. 7 Pine Valley 74-65 this evening to open the Section VI Class D boys basketball playoffs.
Luey Castro scored 25, Aidan Voss 18, Brad Cantrell 16, Aidan Mescall 6, Wyatt Sherman 5 and Cameron Hefferon and Dawson Donovan 2 each for Barker which next visits No. 2 seed Clymer at 7 p.m. Friday.
Barker jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead as Cantrell tallied 6.
The Raiders extended the advantage to 14, 37-23, at the half as Cantrell and Castro both scored 8 in the second quarter.
Voss then erupted for 16 points in the third period to help Barker maintain a 13 point, 59-46, lead at the three-quarter mark.
Pine Valley did cut the deficit to three late in the fourth quarter at 66-63 but could get no closer.
Barker turned back the challenge as a basket by Castro along with two free throws each by Voss, Mescall and Cantrell helped the Raiders lock up the win. Castro had a total of 9 points in the final stanza.
