Barker tops Medina in field hockey

Jumping out to a 4-0 half-time advantage defending champion Barker went on to defeat Medina 7-0 at Vets Park this afternoon to improve to 5-0 in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey action.

Brooke Bodine, Melissa Grosshans, Lydia Dewart and Erin Greenwald took turns scoring goals for Barker in the first half as Gabrielle Clare had two assists during that stretch.

The Lady Raiders capped off the victory with two goals by Grosshans and one by Greenwald in the second half.

The loss drops Medina to 0-4.

Akron 5, Newfane 0
NEWFANE – Claudia Stone scored five goals in the second half to power Akron (4-1) to a 5-0 victory over Newfane (3-3).

Tori Triaga earned the shut-out in goal as Dakota Earle anchored the Akron defense.

In another N-O contest, Kenmore (4-1) defeated Wilson (1-4) 3-1.

Roy-Hart 2, Buffalo Seminary 0
MIDDLEPORT – Second half goals by Chessa Bond and Deanna Catalano earned Roy-Hart a 2-1 non league victory over Buffalo Seminary.

Golf

Barker 230, Albion 302
Alonzo St. Louis took medalist honors with a 40 to lead Barker (10-0-1) to a 230-302 victory over Albion (4-6) this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League golf match at Niagara Orleans.

Mitch Luckman added a 44 and Brian Hefferon a 45 for the Raiders.

John Krieger shot 43 and Connor Barleben 48 for Albion.

Akron 224, Medina 237
Noah Diebel shot a 42 to lead Akron (6-3-2) to a 237-224 win over Medina (4-6-1) at DanDee Farms.

Gage Masters took medalist honors for Medina with a 41 and Michael Cardone had a 44.
