Defending champion Barker kept its title hopes alive by nipping previously undefeated front-running Akron 3-2 in overtime this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game at Barker.

Madison Greenwald scored the game winner for Barker with 1:45 remaining in the 10 minute overtime period.

Barker, which has won the N-O title the last nine years in a row improves to 9-1-1 and moves to within a half game of 10-1 Akron.

Barker now needs a win over Medina on Thursday combined with a Wilson win or tie against Akron to claim at least a share of the title. Akron, which played without All-Western New York player Abby Stone, can lockup outright possession of its first N-O title since 2006 with a win at Wilson.

Akron grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Emily Buckley with a minute to go in the first half.

Barker battled back to knot the contest on a goal by Erin Greenwald with 6:17 remaining in the second half.

The Lady Raiders then grabbed a 2-1 lead when Caitlyn Mason scored with 1:35 remaining.

However, Akron answered right back with a goal by Sarah Schultz with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation time to retie the contest at 2-2 and force overtime.

Barker though pulled out the win in OT when Greenwald scored off assists from Kelsie Engert and Erika Moeller.

Newfane 2, Medina 1

Goals in the shootout by Brenna Sheehan and Jennifer Killion lifted Newfane to the narrow win over Medina.

Medina took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Teanna Cardone scored off an assist from Alaina Boyce.

Newfane rallied into tie on a second half goal by Katie Kneeland.

Newfane is now 3-8 and Medina 1-10.

Roy-Hart 2, Kenmore 0

Goals by Delany Draper and Rielly Albee sparked Roy-Hart to the 2-0 win over Kenmore as Jamie Bower earned the shutout in goal.

Roy-Hart improves to 7-5 and Kenmore slips to 1-10.
