Barker, Roy-Hart win Midget A openers
Pitching was the name of the game as Barker and Roy-Hart both scored victories in a season opening Midget A League doubleheader Tuesday evening at Gasport.
Barker downed Orchard Park 5-3 in the opener as Eddie Wasnock pitched a 1 hitter with 13 strikeouts.
Roy-Hart then blanked Albion 7-0 in the nightcap as Cameron Meadows hurled a no hitter with 18 strikeouts.
Barker snapped a 3-3 tie by scoring twice in the fifth inning on a fielders choicec play off the bat of Josh Richbart and an RBI single by Logan Harris.
Earlier Barker scored once in the first on a bases loaded walk, once in the second on a triple by Devan Mangan and once in the third on a sacrifice by Richbart.
Preston Harris added 2 hits for Barker as Wasnock and Evan Ecker each had 1.
Roy-Hart broke away from a close 2-0 game by erupting for five runs in the fifth inning highlighted by a two-run hit by Walker Samanka who had 2 hits in the contest. Charlie Brigham and Steve Moskaluk also each had an RBI.
