Barker, Roy-Hart bow in sectional finals

Barker and Roy-Hart both dropped narrow decisions this evening in Section VI baseball championship action.

Top seeded Barker lost to No. 3 Maple Grove in Class C2 and No. 4 Roy-Hart was edged by No. 3 Fredonia in Class B2 by the identical score of 4-2.

Fredonia snapped a 1-1 deadlock by scoring once in the fifth.  The Hillbillies then added what proved to be the decisive 2 runs in the sixth.

Roy-Hart had tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Al Xapsos in the fifth inning. However, the Rams left the bases loaded.

Roy-Hart got a rally going in the seventh ignited by singles by Xapsos and Brendan Hess. Eric Fitch followed up with an RBI single to close the gap to 4-2 but the Rams left a pair of runners stranded as a line out to center ended the rally and the contest.

Xapsos and Charlie Bruning both finished with 2 hits.

Barker likewise trailed 4-1 going into the seventh and scored once on a double by Ryan Voss. However, the Raiders likewise left a pair of runners stranded. Voss had 2 doubles on the night.

Barker’s first run came in the fifth inning as Kyle MacDonald singled and came home on an error.

Maple Grove scored 3 runs in the third inning and 1 in the sixth.
