Barker posts shutout to open field hockey sectional title defense
Getting goal prduction from five different players top seeded Barker opened defense of its Section VI Class C field hockey title by posting a 6-0 victory over visiting No. 8 Holland this afternoon.
Mellssa Grosshans scored two goals as Gabby Clare, Becky Stoloski, Lydia Dewart and Erin Greenwald each netted one for Barker which led 2-0 at the half. Clare also assisted on both of Grosshans’ goals.
The Lady Raiders will next face the winner of the No. 4 East Aurora vs.No. 5 Eden game in the semifinals next Thursday.
In the other quarterfinal games which matched N-O foes No. 2 Akron defeated No. 7 Roy-Hart 3-1 and No. 3 Wilson nipped rival No. 6 Newfane 2-1 in overtime.
Molly Jennings scored two goals in the first half and Loriann Blenker one in the second half to lead the way for Akron which will next face Wilson in the semis.
Rielly Albee scored the goal for Roy-Hart.
Wilson advanced on an overtime goal by Rachael Cobo.
Liz Soles scored Wilson’s other goal in the first half .
Olivia Mitchell assisted on both Wilson goals.
Lydia Garaughn scored Newfane’s goal.
