Barker posts key field hockey win over Medina

Taking over sole possession of second place, Barker downed visiting Medina 3-1 in a key Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game this afternoon.

With the win Barker improves to 5-1 while Medina slips to 3-2.

Barker jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Addison Szafranski scored with 6 minutes to go in the first quarter and Ella Taylor tallied four minutes into the second period.

Medina did cut the deficit to 2-1 a minute later when Penelope Schalck scored on a penalty stroke but the Mustangs could not score again.

Barker gained some breathing room when Taylor scored again with just 38 seconds to go in the third period for a 3-1 lead.

Medina had four corner opportunities in the final period but could not capitalize.

Akron 7, Newfane 0

Nevada Berman, Julia Klodzinski and Brooke Milhollen each scored 2 goals and  Olivia McClaine 1  to lead undefeated (5-0) Akron to a 7-0 win over Newfane which slips to 1-5.

Roy-Hart 5, Kenmore 0

Roy-Hart improved to 2-4 with a 5-0 win at Kenmore (0-5) as Savannah Newton scored 2 goals and Violette Streckewald, Lily Beals and Dillan Santella each had 1. Santella and Brooke Zglinicki had assists.

Cayla Burch registered the shutout in goal.

Penelope Schalck, who scored the Medina goal, sends the ball toward the goal as Madelina Pavlock defends for Barker.
