Barker posts key field hockey win over Akron

The number of undefeated Niagara-Orleans League field hockey teams was reduced to two this afternoon as defending champion Barker shutout visiting Akron 3-0.

The win keeps Barker tied for first place at 3-0 with Roy-Hart which downed Newfane 3-1 as Akron slips into the runner-up spot at 3-1.

In the other game, Medina evened its record at 2-2 with a 4-0 win at Kenmore (0-4).

Ciara Gregoire scored what proved to be the game winning goal for Barker at 16:45 of the first half on a rebound shot. (Click here to see Ciara Gregoire’s goal.)

Serena Harris doubled the Lady Raiders lead  to 2-0 when she scored with 4:07 remaining in the first half off an assist from Natalie Bruning.

Madison Gancasz later rounded out the Lady Raiders scoring with a goal with 3:30 to go in the second half.

Samantha Choate scored 2 goals and Jenna Gioeli 1 for Roy-Hart.

Lacey Kenward had the 3 goal hat-trick for Medina whose other goal was scored by Micaela Erway. Tessa Pecoraro earned the shutout in goal.
