Barker nips Roy-Hart in field hockey shootout
It took a shootout to decide the outcome as Barker edged visiting Roy-Hart 3-2 this afternoon to maintain a hold on second place in the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey standings.
Barker outscored Roy-Hart 5-3 in the 5 on 5 shootout round to improve to 5-1 in N-O action as Roy-Hart slips to 2-2.
Ella Taylor, Naomi Bish, Madelina Pavlock, Kaylee Stoll and Madilyn Detschner took turns scoring the goals for Barker in the shootout.
Adella Dukes, Savannah Newton and Mackenzie Landers scored in the shootout for Roy-Hart.
Barker jumped out to a 1-0 first quarter lead on goal by Pavlock but Roy-Hart answered with a second period tally by Brooke Zglinicki to knot the contest at 1-1 at the half.
It was a repeat performance in the second half as Barker went up 2-1 in the third quarter on a goal by Sara Meza Ray only to have Roy-Hart answer back with the tying goal early in the fourth period by Dukes.
It remained deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of regulation and at the end of a 10 minute overtime period setting the stage for the decisive shootout.
Wilson 3, Medina 2
Trailing 2-0, Wilson rallied for three unanswered second half goals to edge visitng Medina 3-2.
Medina took a 2-0 lead on a pair of second period goals by Penelope Schalck.
However, Wilson came battling back to claim the win on second half goals by Katie Hardy, Brynn Lepsch and Clara Ferdinand.
Wilson is now 3-4 and Medina 2-3.
