Barker nips R-H in field hockey shootout

Barker outlasted host Roy-Hart 2-1 in a shootout this afternoon to remain tied for the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey lead at 9-1 with defending champion Akron, a 12-0 victor over Newfane.

Barker’s first two shooters in the shootout, Casey A’Hearn and Katrina Clare, both scored goals to provide the margin of victory for the Lady Raiders. Cara Fox made a pair of saves in the cage to preserve the win.

Roy-Hart, which slipped two games off the pace at 8-3, grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Ashley Hill.

Barker pulled even in the second half as Clare scored off an assist from Lena Fazzolari.

Regulation play ended deadlocked at 1-1 and neither team could score in the 7 on 7 10 minute overtime period setting the stage for the shootout.

The Akron attack included 4 goals by Rebecca Breymeier and 2 each by Alexis Bell, Abby Stone and Courtney Johnt.

Wilson regained the .500 mark at 5-5 by blanking Kenmore (1-9) 5-0 as Hannah Day scored 3 goals and Veda Brillhart and Liz Soles each added 1.

In a non league game, Sacred Heart defeated host Medina 4-1.  Alexis Maines scored Medina’s goal off an assist from Libby Cook.
