Barker nips Newfane to grab N-O diamond lead as Roy-Hart blanks Albion
Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Cam Meadows hurled a no hitter to lead Roy-Hart to a key win over visiting Albion this afternoon at Gasport.
Barker combined a narrow 1-0 win over Newfane with Roy-Hart’s 5-0 victory over Albion this afternoon to take over sole possession of the Niagara-Orleans League lead.
Barker is now 4-0, Albion 3-1 and Roy-Hart 2-1.
In the other N-O contests, Medina rallied late to down host Akron 7-5 and Wilson blanked CSAT 4-0.

Roy-Hart 5, Albion 0
Junior Cam Meadows hurled a no hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Roy-Hart to the 5-0 win over visiting Albion.
Roy-Hart moved on top to stay by scoring two quick runs in the first inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Eric Fitch and a wild pitch. A leadoff single by Andy Xapsos and a walk set up the threat.
The Rams quickly tacked on three more runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Al Xapsos and a two-run single by Fitch. A two out double by Andy Xapsos, who had a total of three hits on the day, ignited that uprising.

Barker 1, Newfane 0
Making a lone first inning run hold up, Barker nipped host Newfane 1-0 to stay perfect at 4-0 in N-O action.
Brad Wilson singled in the only run the Raiders needed at it turned out in the opening frame as a hit batter, an error and a walk set up the opportunity.
Eddie Wasnock went the distance on the mound for Barker giving up 4 hits and striking out 5.
Newfane did mount a big threat in the bottom of the seventh but Barker got out of the jam as right fielder Kyle MacDonald threw to catcher Devon Mangan to get the final out of the game at home.
The loss drops Newfane to 0-3.
Medina 7, Akron 5
Medina rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to edge past host Akron 7-5 and improve to 2-3 in the league.
Jared Zinkieivch had a big two-run triple to highlight the Mustangs late rally as an error plated the other run. A single by Justin Morgan and a walk set up the opportunity.
Earlier, Medina jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring once in the second on a single by Tyler Ames and twice in the third on an error which followed singles by Luke Porter and Brad McPherson.
Akron though battled back to take a 5-3 lead as John Nowakowski had a two-run triple in the third inning an an RBI double in the fifth.
Medina cut the deficit to 5-4 in the sixth on an RBI single by Brian Fry before plating the decisive three runs in the seventh.
Ames, McPherson and Fry each had two hits on the day.
Porter picked up the win on the mound in relief as he hurled shutout ball over the final two innings.
Wilson 4, CSAT 0
Jordan Bender pitched a no hitter with 8 strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound to lead Wilson past CSAT 4-0.
Nate Fox, Connor Seeley and Brayden Shobjak each had a pair of hits for the Lakemen. Fox’s hits included a two-run triple in the fourth inning.
