Barker harriers sweep in N-O opener; Albion splits with Akron

Barker opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League boys cross country title by defeating host Roy-Hart 17-46 and Medina 17-45 this afternoon as Gasport.

Barker swept the top three finishing sports led by Sergio Cruz with a win in 17:43. Doug Bachman placed second and Casey Webb third for the Raiders.

Roy-Hart’s Avery Green placed fourth and Medina’s Austin Heil fifth.

Roy-Hart nipped Medina 26-28 in the other portion of the meet.

The Barker girls squad likewise scored a sweep defeating Roy-Hart 20-35 and Medina 15-50. Roy-Hart also bested Medina 15-50.

Medina’s Holly Heil finished first with a time of 21:24.

Roy-Hart’s Chelsea Herrivan placed second, Barker’s Gabby Barker third, Medina’s Paige Wagner fourth and Barker’s Emma Jenks fifth.

Albion earned a split with visiting Akron winning the boys meet 18-44 but losing the girls race 19-42.

Aaron Chen took first place for the Albion boys in a time of 18:36. The Purple Eagles also had Evan Pappalardo second, JJ Downs fourth and Evan Steier fifth.

Akron’s Margo Henley won the girls race in 20:21 as her teammate Emily Ludwick took second.

Madison Coville finished third and Meredith Patterson sixth for Albion.
