Barker girls down Roy-Hart for first N-O victory
In a clash of two teams seeking that elusive first league win, Barker posted a 34-24 Niagara-Orleans victory over visiting Roy-Hart this evening.
Gabby Baker and Haley Brown both scored 10 points to lead the way for Barker as Lydia Dewart and Emily Annable added 6 and Kylee Annable 2. Brown also had 10 rebounds and Baker 8.
Ellie Todd took game high scoring honors for Roy-Hart with 12 as Delaney Draper had 6, Meghan Washington 3, Maddy Glena 2 and Ashley Hill 1.
Roy-Hart did jump out to a 10-0 lead at the outset on three baskets by Todd and one each by Washington and Glena. However, the Lady Rams managed a total of only 14 more points the rest of the way.
Barker got right back in the game by closing the period with an 8-2 run ignited by a three by Dewart to cut the deficit to 12-8.
Barker pulled even late in the second quarter at 13-13 after a three by Baker and a jumper by Emily Annable. The Lady Raiders stayed deadlocked at 15-15 at the half one two free throws by Brown as time expired.
Roy-Hart did regain the lead for what proved to be the last time at the outset of the second half, 19-15, after layups by Todd and Draper.
Barker though answered back with what proved to be a key 10-0 run to regain the lead for good at 25-19. A three by Baker started that burst which also included a pair of baskets by Brown.
The Lady Raiders held a 27-22 lead at the three-quarter mark and then outpointed the Lady Rams 7-2 in a low scoring final period to close out the win. A there by Baker midway through the period gave the Lady Raiders a 31-23 lead.
Barker is now 1-5 and Roy-Hart 0-6 at the halfway point of the N-O season.
