Barker earns split with Akron

Moving back above the .500 mark at 6-5, Akron outlasted visiting Barker 63-58 in double overtime this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.

The Barker girls earned a split on the night by defeating visiting Akron 42-22.

Gates Abrams scored 21 and Larson Sundown 11 to set the pace for Akron which outscored Barker 7-4 in the second overtime to claim the narrow win.

Josh Mead and Thomas Callaghan both scored 14 and Nathan Luckman 13 for Barker. which slips to 1-10.

The contest was deadlocked at 52-52 at the end of regulation and 56-56 after the first overtime.

Akron held a narrow 20-18 lead at the half.

Caitlin Mason poured in a game high 18 points to lead the way for the Barker girls squad as Melissa Grosshans and Maicie Baker both added 6 and Kelsie Flegal, Rebecca Stoloski and Lindsey Williams 4 each.

Cailin Regan scored 7 and Maggie Kowalik 5 for Akron.

Barker led 20-13 at the half.

Both teams are now 4-7 in N-O action.
