Defending champion Barker downed host Akron 1-0 this afternoon to clinch at least a tie for the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey title.

Katrina Clare scored the lone goal for Barker 8 minutes into the first half on a corner opportunity started by Madison Gancasz.

“We really did a nice job,” said Barker Coach Jeff Costello whose Lady Raiders improve to 9-0 and now hold a three game lead with three games to go.

The loss drops Akron to 7-3.

Roy-Hart improved to 6-3 with a 3-0 win over Newfane (0-9).

Stephanie Flowers scored on a breakaway in the first half for Roy-Hart which put a lock on the win on second half goals by Lexiss Diel and Sam Choate.

In the other N-O contest, Medina improved to 6-3-1 with a 6-2 win over Kenmore (1-8) at Vets Park.

Lacey Kenward scored 2 goals as Micaela Erway, Mary Flores, Layna Viloria and Emma Leonard each added 1 for Medina which led 3-1 at the half.

Flores also had 2 assists as Erway, Abi Neuman and Alex Strong each had 1.

Barker’s Ciara Gregoire reaches to keep the ball away from Akron’s Lydia Blueye.
