Barker cager earns All-WNY honor

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Barker High senior Jacob Haight has earned fourth team All-WNY basketball honors.

Completing an all-star honors trifecta, Barker High senior Jacob Haight has been named to the fourth team of the All-Western New York baseball squad.

Haight, who earned All-WNY football squad honors last fall and is the defending Section VI high jump and triple jump champion in track, became Barker’s career scoring leader this past season. In helping lead the Raiders to their first Niagara-Orleans League championship single 1945 with a perfect 14-0 record, he scored 360 points (18.0 average) and grabbed off 200 rebounds. A four year varsity starter he also had 85 steals, 84 assists and 37 blocks.

Barker senior Mitch Luckman, who scored 289 points (14.4 ave.) and had 143 assists, earned honorable mention on the All-WNY squad.

Medina High senior Munjie Brown, who averaged a double-double of 15.8 points and 11.4 rebounds, also earned honorable mention.

The All-WNY girls squad had Albion junior Justice Nauden, Wilson seniors Emily Lasher and Dana Smith, Newfane junior Brooke Horning and CSAT junior Mia Jones all receiving honorable mention.

Nauden scored 214 points (11.2 ave.) and had 99 rebounds, 74 assists and 65 steals.

In leading Wilson to the N-O championship, Lasher had 249 points (13.1 ave.), 142 rebounds, 91 steal and 84 assists and Smith 186 points (9.7 ave.), 145 rebounds and 52 assists.

Horning averaged 11.2 points and Jones 12.4 points.

All eight players were first team N-O All-League selections.
