Barker, Akron win to stay 1-2 in N-O field hockey title race

Tuning up for Thursday’s key showdown battle for first place defending undefeated champion Barker (10-0) blanked Newfane (3-7) 4-0 and runner-up Akron (9-1) downed Kenmore (5-5) 8-2 today in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey competition.

Barker nipped Akron 1-0 in the earlier season meeting at Barker.

Barker jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead on goals by Melissa Grosshans and Lydia Dewart, off an assist from Morgan Brown.

The Lady Raiders then got second half goals by Becky Stoloski and Erin Greenwald, from Gabby Clare.

Molly Jennings scored three goals and Abigail Stone two to lead the way for Akron which also got tallies from Emily Buckley, Sarah Schultz and Shawna Schie.

In the other N-O contest Wilson (7-4) blanked Roy-Hart (2-9) as Madeline Mocarski scored two goals and Elizabeth Soles, Rachael Cobo and JoJo Turvey each netted one.
