Barker, Akron stay deadlocked for field hockey lead with shutout wins

Tuning up for next week’s key battle for first place, defending champion Barker and Akron both scored shutout victories this afternoon to remain deadlocked atop the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey standings.

Improving to 4-0, Barker blanked Newfane 4-0 and Akron shutout Kenmore 7-0.

Melissa Grosshans scored two goals while Madison Greenwald and Kelsey Blackley each added one to lead the Barker attack.

Molly Jennings scored three goals and Abby Stone two to set the pace for Akron.

Barker will host Akron next Tuesday.

The losses drop Newfane to 1-2 and Kenmore to 1-3.

In the other N-O contest, Wilson (3-1) blanked Roy-Hart (1-4) 2-0 on goals by Erin Boyle and JoJo Turvey.
