Barker, Akron post shutout wins in N-O field hockey in tuneup for key meeting

Setting the stage for a key meeting on Thursday, defending champion Barker and front-running Akron both posted shutout victories this afternoon in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey action.

Barker blanked Newfane 3-0 to improve to 3-0-1 as Rebecca Stoloski scored two goals in the second half and Erin Greenwald one in the opening half. Natalie Menz had two assists.

The loss drops Newfane to 0-4.

Akron shutout Kenmore 4-0 to stay unbeaten at 4-0 as Sarah Schultz scored two goals and Emily Buckley and Rachel Heim each netted one.

Barker will now visit Akron at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

In the other game, Wilson boosted its record to 4-0-1 by downing Roy-Hart 4-1 on goals by Courtney Wheeler, Rachael Cobo, Alex Seeley and Madeline Mocarski.

Alexis Lovewell scored the lone goal for Roy-Hart which is now 2-3.
