Barker 1 takes lead in field hockey league
Barker 1 used the combination of a narrow 2-1 win over rival Barker 2 and Barker 2’s 6-2 victory over Medina Monday to take over sole possession of first place in the Barker 7 vs. 7 Summer Field Hockey League.
Medina bested Roy-Hart 12-3 in the other game.
Barker 1 is now 3-0-1, Medina 3-1-1, Barker 2 2-3-0 and Roy-Hart 0-4-0 in the round robin portion of the league season.
Kaedynce Schumacher and Mia Herman scored the goals for Barker 1 while Rachel Hurtgam netted the lone Barker 2 goal.
In Barker 2’s win over Medina, Hurtgam and Natalie Bruning both scored 2 goals while Serena Harris and Ciara Gregoire each netted 1.
Hannah Kenward and Abby Blount scored for Medina.
In Medina’s win over Roy-Hart, Blount scored 4 goals, Braelin Taylor and Adeline Castricone 3 and Mary Flores and Kenward 1.
Cheyenne Stillwell scored all 3 of Roy-Hart’s goals.
Blount leads the league in scoring with 10 goals as Taylor and Stillwell both had 6 and Flores and Madilyn Detschner (Barker 2) 5.
League competition will continue next Monday with Barker 2 vs. Roy-Hart at 5 p.m., Barker 1 vs. Roy-Hart at 6 p.m. and Barker 1 vs. Medina at 7 p.m.
The playoffs will be held on July 29 with the semis at 5 and 6 p.m. followed by the championship game at 7:15 p.m.
