Banes, Jr. Wilson 1 win to advance to semis

Medina Women’s Softball playoff action got underway Monday evening as top seeded Banes and No. 2 Jr. Wilson 1 both scored victories to advance to the ‘A’ League semifinals.

Banes downed Hemp House/810 Meadworks 11-4 and Jr. Wilson 1 bested NYSCOPBA 22-10.

The first game of the evening saw Hemp House/810 Meadowrks outlast White Birch 19-16. White Birch scored 6 quick runs in the top of the first but Hemp House answered right back with 4 in the home half of the frame to set the tone for the free scoring contest.

Leading the offense for Hemp House were Halle Deuil who went 4-4 with two stand up doubles, Bridget Tower 4-4 with a double and three singles and Heather Tower 3-4 with a double and two singles.

For White Birch, Stacy Buckland had a homerun, Kaity Albone 3 hits including a double and single, Liz Bailey a double and triple, Miranda Lembke a single and double and Maddy Boyle and Alex Harling both with a pair of singles.

Banes used a big 6 run sixth inning to earn the 11-4 win over Hemp House. Jen Masse had a triple in the uprising which also included doubles by Kathy Allen, Grace Masse and Patti Page.

Grace Masse finished with 3 doubles, Connie Heschke 2 triples, Jen Masse 2 hits and Robin Blaun 2 hits including a home run.

Jr. Wilson 1 scored eight runs on nine hits in the first, including doubles from Jaclyn Guzdek, Michele Crandall, Lizzy Zacher and Sara Flansburg, along with a triple from Stormi Kruger.

Jr. Wilson 1 added eight more runs in the third inning on a double from Kaitlyn Miller, a triple from Flansburg, and a 2-run home run from Jodi Zacher.

Flansburg and Kruger finished the night with four hits each, while Jessica Rosenbeck, Crandall and Miller all finished with three hits apiece. Courtney Gaylord and Brandi Guild had three hits each, while Kristin Guild chipped in with a double and triple for

The semifinals will be held next Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Jr. Wilson. A losers bracket game matching White Birch and NYSCOPBA will also be held at that same time at Jr. Wilson.

The remainder of the losers bracket games and the championship contest are scheduled for Saturday August 13 at Jr. Wilson.
