Four local schools have earned School of Excellence awards from the New York State Public School Athletic Association for the 2023-24 academic year.

The honored schools include Albion, Barker, Lyndonville and Medina.

Schools are eligible for the School of Excellence Award by having 75 percent of their varsity teams earn Scholar/Athlete Team Awards by having a composite average of at least 90.

In addition, Wilson has earned a School of Distinction Award by having 100 percent of their varsity teams earn a Scholar/Athlete Team Award.

“The efforts made by student-athletes in the classroom are paramount to their success in the athletic arena, and beyond their high school days,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “We are proud of those who put in the work as ‘student’ and ‘athlete’, as well as the growth in both of School of Excellence and Distinction recognition.”
