There is another heat advisory today for Orleans County, two days after there was one. Today the advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. with the heat index values in the mid to upper 90s.

The advisory also includes Niagara, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Genesee, Livingston and Ontario counties. The advisory has been expanded to include Erie and Chautauqua counties.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo encourages people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Today’s high temperature is forecast to reach 89 degrees.

“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,” the Weather Service said. “When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.”

After today’s partly sunny with a high of 89 degrees, the forecast then includes a high near 82 on Wednesday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, and a mostly cloudy Thursday with a high near 76.
