AnJo Bombers capture league championship
Contributed Photo – The core squad for the Clarence League champion AnJo Bombers U16 consisted of Reed Albee (Roy-Hart), Rylend Callicutt (Batavia), Zeke Callicutt (Albion), Addison Christ (Albion), Karl Darling (Roy-Hart), Mike DiCureia (Albion), Colin Fragale (Lockport), Tom Furmanski (Albion), Cade Littman (Newfane), AJ Seefeldt (Medina), Carson Tatro (Lockport), and Joe Watson (Lockport). The Bombers were coaches by head coach Todd Fragale, and Asstant. Coaches Roger Furmanski and Jim Watson.
The AnJo Bombers 16U clinched Clarence League championship with a walk-off 7-6 victory over the Matthewson McCarthy Bandits. this past week.
Finishing the league season at 9-1 the Bombers got a superb relief pitching effort by Mike DiCureia who slammed the door shot after entering the game in the third inning.
The game ended in dramatic fashion with Colin Fragale scoring from second on a single by Liam Ward. Ward then stole third on a walk by Watson, and scored on the same play on an overthrow at third.
The Bombers broke onto the scoreboard early scoring on a double by Zeke Callicutt and a walk by Reed Albee in the first inning and a walk by AJ Seefeldt in the second inning.
MMB Bandits scored four runs in the second inning..
Rylend Callicutt started the game for the Bombers. He went two innings, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs while striking out 2. DiCureia earned the win fin relief surrendering zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out 7.
Fragale, Chris Goyette, DiCureia, Ward, and Callicutt each had a hit to lead the Bombers. Watson, Ward and Fragale each reached base three times with Fragale, Ward and DiCureia scoring twice apiece.
MMB Bandits totaled eight hits in the game.
