Plagued by a rash of turnovers, Medina dropped a 14-4 decision to Amherst at Vets Park this afternoon in the season opening Class C Division lacrosse game for both teams.
Setting the tone for the afternoon, Amherst capitalized on two Medina turnovers to grab a quick 2-0 lead in the first three minutes, an advantage the Tigers never relinquished.
Medina did briefly cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Tyler Valley two minutes later but the Mustangs would get no closer.
Up 3-1 at the end of the first period, Amherst broke the contest wide open with a barrage of five goals within a span of five minutes midway through the second half.
Jimmy Chadwick scored five goals to lead the first half uprising for Amherst which led 9-1 at the break.
The Tigers maintained a 10-3 lead after three quarters.
Kyle Barna and Brett Pecoraro each scored a goal for Medina in the third period. Barna also netted the Mustangs only goal of the final stanza.
Now at 1-1 overall, Medina will complete a busy four game opening week by visiting Wilson at 5 p.m. Friday in a Class C Division contest and Palmyra-Madedon in a non league game on Saturday afternoon at 3 at Genesee Community College.
