Alexander used a big 15-4 scoring surge in overtime to outlast host Kendall 66-55 this evening in a Genesee Region League boys basketball game.

Tyler Laird took game high scoring honors with 20 as Matt Genaway added 16, including four threes, and Jake Riggs 14 to spark the attack for Alexander. A three by Genaway in fact ignited the Trojans decisive overtime scoring burst.

Mookie Nauden scored 18 and Will Condo and Evan Gaesser both netted 14 to pace Kendall which was plaqued throughout by ice cold shooting both from the field and at the line. Nauden also grabbed off 9 rebounds and had 3 assists.

“We missed a lot of layups and we were only 5 of 15 from the free throw line,” said Kendall Coach Justin Laureano. “Nothing seemed to fall for us. It was just one of those nights.”

Trailing 25-22 at the half, Kendall put together a 21-12 third period scoring surge to rally into a 43-37 lead at the three-quarter mark. Condo scored 10 to lead that Eagles uprising.

However, Kendall needed a basket by Nauden with just 10 seconds to go in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 51-51 and force overtime.

Alexander though quickly took the lead in the extra period on a three by Genaway and the Trojans were never headed.

“We had talked about defending against Genaway hitting the three and after he made that we just couldn’t recover,” said Laureano.

Now at 3-2 in the league and 5-3 overall, Kendall next visits Attica at 7 p.m. Friday in another G-R contest.
