Albion youth gridders score sweep

Medina Colts best Batavia

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Xander Payne had a touchdown pass to ignite the Medina Colts offense Saturday in a win over Batavia improving the Medina squad to 7-1 on the season.

Albion swept past Tri Town in Niagara Orleans Football Association action Saturday winning the Mini game 19-12, the JV contest 34-0 and the Varsity game 26-25.

The Medina Colts defeated host Batavia 33-12 in the Mini Division game. However, Batavia took the other two contests defeating the Broncos 22-0 in the JV Division and the Stallions 34-8 in the Varsity game.

Mini Division

Albion 19, Tri Town 12
Breaking away from a 0-0 deadlock, Albion took the lead on the first play of the third quarter as Jahmeek Riley ran 60 yards for a touchdown. Riley, who had a total of 151 yards offense, also added a 26 yard touchdown run.

Amari Jones added 65 yards, including a 55 yard TD run and an extra point.

Tyler Gibson had key blocks for two of the scores.

On defense, Amari Jones had 13 tackles, Jabari Johnson 10, William Trembley 9, Zach Olles 7. Javon Jones, Chris Porter and Riley were each in on 6 stops and Jonathan Judd, Gibson and Byrce Froman 3 each.

Albion improves to 5-3.

Medina Colts 33, Batavia 12
Xander Payne hooked up with Jarin Rhim for a 26 yard touchdown pass to get the Colts offense rolling.

Iverson Poole followed up with three touchdowns on runs of 43, 13 and 26.

Hayden Woodroe rounded out the scoring with a 38 yard touchdown run.

Woodroe, Poole and Payne also all had extra points.

Poole finished with a total of 209 yards, Woodroe 48 and Aidan Pitts 29. Payne completed three passes to Rhim for a total of 45 yards.

On defense. Zack Heideman had a fumble recovery, Zack Oliver an interception and Sam Kingsbury a sack.

The Colts are now 7-1.

JV Division

Albion 34, Tri Town 0
The Albion attack included touchdown runs of 55 yards by Briliance Johnson, 45 by Xavier Cornick, 43 by Deyonci Farley. 39 by Elijah Lloyd and a 57 yard TD pass from Thomas Furmanski to Lloyd. Kevin Hillman added a pair of extra point catches.

Johnson finished with 55 yards rushing, Cornick 50, Farley 43, DeShawn Grace 32 and Al’Tamir Brown 25.

On defense, Kyle Hughson had 5 tackles, Joshua Howell 4 and Quinton Soto-Thomas 3. Farley also had two sacks while Daniel Grabowski and Damion Lattimerboth had fumble recoveries and Lloyd, Hillman and Hughson interceptions.

Albion boosts its record to 7-1.

Varsity Division

Albion 26, Tri Town 25
Antonio Vallejo scored four touchdowns on runs of 35, 15, 74 yards and on a 70 yard kickoff return to lead Albion to the narrow win as Marc Green added a key extra point.

Vallejo finished with a total of 136 yards rushing. Green added 34 rushing and 31 receiving and Nate Moore 22 rushing.

Defensively, Vallejo made 9 tackles Isaiah Callicutt 7, Green 5, Colton Tuttle 4, and Devin Olles, Colton Howell, Vincent Zona and Daniel Behrend 3. Tuttle and Behrend also both had sacks.

Albion regains the .500 mark at 4-4.

Batavia 34, Medina Stallions 8
Damon Bloom scored the lone touchdown for the Stallions which slip to 5-3.
