Albion youth football teams sweep Akron
Albion’s youth football teams scored a three game sweep over Akron in Niagara Orleans Football Association competition Saturday.
Beginners Division
Albion 20, Akron 6
Kenny Almonte had 117 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on the day for Albion. Hudson Palmer added 27 yards and a score. Patrick Westlund picked up 16 yards, Elijah Cornick 13 and Gunner Jackson 9 yards. Palmer and Royce Rotthoff added PAT’s.
Almonte and Cornick picked up 7 tackles for the defense. Arlene Beecher added 5, Palmer 4, Xavier Weis 2, Jackson and Neil Farley 1 each.
Mini Division
Albion 32, Akron 0
Jayce Torres had a huge day on the ground with 192 yards and 3 touchdowns for Albion. Also on the ground, Cayden Farrell had 64 yards, Harrison Froman 57, Moses Taylor 27, Elian Almonte 25, Jai’Kiah 23, Conor Murphy 16, Kyle Schomske 8, Isaac Button and Greyson Roberts 4 each. Almonte and Drisdom each scored.
Kiro Bennett led the defense with 9 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Taylor was in on 5 stops, Almonte 4, Button and Murphy 3 each. Carter Carithers, Zeus Vallejo, Schomske and Christopher Swan each were in on tackles.
JV Division
Albion 39, Akron 0
Camden Holt had a big day on defense for the Eagles with 3 tackles, 2 interceptions and a pick 6. Matthew Colmerero had 4 tackles, Colton Moreland 3, Roman Allport 2 and Giovanni LaMartina, Hank Aina, Jace Wright, Brady Graham, Kolton Berry and Remi Ebbs were each in on some tackles. Heyden Almonte also had a interception.
Almonte finished with 155 yards and a score on the ground. Carter Farrell had 102, Moreland 44, Holt 12. Farrell and Moreland picked up touchdowns. Jace DiMatteo had a TD pass and PAT to Landon Farrell.
All three teams benefitted from great line play on both sides of the ball.
