Albion wrestlers rally big to edge Lyndonville

Coming from way, way back, Albion rallied to edge host Lyndonville 36-30 in a non league wrestling match this evening.

Trailing by 24 (30-6) midway through the match, Albion came battling back to take the final six bouts and claim the narrow win.

First period pins by Chris Almonte (190) in 1:38, Dillon DiGiulio (215) in 11 seconds and Justin Mengs (101) in 1:21 led the Purple Eagles big rally which also included decision wins by Noah Marat (170) by a score of 15-8 and Drake Schomske (108) by a margin of 14-10 and a forfeit win.

Mengs’ pin in the second from the last bout put Albion back on top to stay at 33-30. Schomske’s decision win in the final bout then locked up the Purple Eagles win.

Stryker Sanders (116) also had a first period pin for Albion to open the match.

Lyndonville built up the big 30-6 lead after pins by Ty Holmes (124) in 1:38, Michael Alexander (131) in 3:49 and Jesus Rosario (152) in 3:56 along with an 11-8 overtime decision win by Jake Gidley (138), a 10-6 decision win by Brody Hazel (145) and a forfeit win.

In the 170 bout Albion’s Noah Marat in route to a narrow decision win over Lyndonville’s Ben Doolan.
