ALBION – An Albion woman was killed after a head-on collision Friday evening during snowy conditions on Eagle Harbor Road.

Jill Stinson needed to be extricated from her vehicle. She was taken by COVA ambulance to Medina Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 7:47 p.m., said Jeff Gifaldi, chief deputy for the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, COVA and the Albion Fire Department were dispatched to Eagle Harbor Road near the railroad tracks at 6:34 p.m.

A 2007 Ford Econoline E350 van was being operated by Michael Dipiazza of Oakfield and was traveling south on Eagle Harbor Road. A 1989 Ford Econoline E150 van was being operated by Stinson and was traveling north on Eagle Harbor Road.

The vehicle being operated by Michael Dipiazza crossed over the center of the roadway and struck the vehicle being driven by Jill Stinson head-on, Gifaldi said.

A passenger in Jill Stinson’s vehicle and Michael Dipiazza were not injured.

It appears that weather conditions at the time of the accident were a contributing factor as to why Michael Dipiazza crossed in to the opposite lane of traffic, Gifaldi said.

The investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
