Albion wins Tri County contest in 8 innings

A big six run eighth inning scoring burst earned Albion a 12-6 victory over host Oakfield in a Tri County Babe Ruth League baseball game Tuesday evening.

Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, Albion finally broke the contest open in the eighth on 2 walks, RBI singles by Austin Aman and Patrick Ricker, a two-run double by Thomas Furmanski an RBI triple by Drew Caldwell and an RBI double by Zach Colacecchi.

Earlier, Albion rallied from a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead by scoring four times in the fourth on a three-run double by Furmanski and an error. Singles by Liam Ward and Ryan Krenning helped set up the threat.

Albion took a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth on a double by Krenning and a fielders choice play but Oakfield answered with a run in the home half of the frame to retie the contest.

Krenning and Furmanski both had 2 hits on the evening.

On the mound for Albion, Bailey Blanchard pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 3 and Ricker hurled four and one-third innings giving up 1 hits and striking out 11.

Now at 2-0, Albion next hosts the Akron Orange at 6 p.m. Thursday.
