Albion, Wilson track teams split

Albion defeated visiting Wilson 85-55 this afternoon in a season opening Niagara-Orleans League girls track meet.

Wilson did gain a split on the day by edging Albion 74-67 in the boys meet.

The Albion girls were led by a quartet of individual event double winners as Abby Squicciarini took the 100 (:12.3) and 200 (:27.3), Meredith Patterson the 1500 (5:50) and 3000 (12:49), Chanyce Powell the long jump (17-6 1/4) and triple jump (35-8) and Sarah Metzler (shot-put (29-0) and discus (73-2). Powell broke her own school record in the long jump.

Mahogony Taylor also won the 100 hurdles (:17.9) for Albion and Jessica Green tied with Wilson’s Angela Goodman for first in the high jump (4-4). Goodman also won the 800.

Albion also won the 3200 relay with the foursome of Riley Lear, Kendell Piccirilli, Emily Keeler and Arianna Smith.

The Wilson boys were led by triple winner Mike Patterson (high jump at 5-6, long jump at 18-7 and triple jump at 37-2 1/2) and double winners Zach Bell (110 hurdles in :17.4 and 400 hurdles in 1:04) and Trey Rees (800 in 2:21 and 1600 in 5:15.8).

Albion had Jarod Biemans double in the 400 (:57.2)and 3200 (12:13).

The Purple Eagles also had Justyn Haines win the pole vault (12-0), Mike Eldred the shot-put (42-4) and Nate Trembley the discus (94-3).

Albion also took the 3200 relay with Biemans, Aaron Chen, Evan Steier and Nick Reed.
