The local high school football weekend will get off to an early start as Albion, which is looking to keep the momentum from last week’s home opening win on the new turf field, will visit undefeated Maryvale at 7 p.m. Thursday for a B2 Division game.

The Purple Eagles put together a big three touchdown fourth quarter to down Roy-Hart/Barker 36-14 to christen the new turf field while the Flyers scored at least 44 points for the third straight game by blanking Lew-Port 44-0.

Maryvale is 2-0 in the division and 3-0 overall. Albion is 0-1, 1-2.

Medina, which has yet to play a home game because of the forfeit win over Eden in week 2, will visit Akron at 7 p.m. Friday for a C North Division contest.

The Mustangs, which will play 3 of their final 4 regular season games at home, are 2-0 in the division and 3-0 overall while the Tigers are 1-1, 1-2 overall. The first of the Mustangs home games will be on September 29 against Roy-Hart/Barker.

Roy-Hart/Barker will host JFK in another C North game at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Bulls are 0-1 in the division and 1-2 overall while the Bears are 0-2, 0-3.

The other C North game will have Cleveland Hill (0-1, 1-2) at Eden (1-2, 1-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. Undefeated C North leader Newfane (3-0, 3-0) will host Lake Shore (2-1) in an interdivisional contest at 7 p.m. Friday.

Future Albion foe drops out

Section VI officials have announced that because of low numbers and injuries Burgard will not be able to continue its season.

Albion was to visit Burgard on September 29 for a B2 Division game. The Purple Eagles will now receive a forfeit win over the Bulldogs.

In addition, this Friday’s B2 Division Iroquois at Lew-Port game has been cancelled as Lew-Port does not have enough eligible players. There has been no announcement on the status for Lew-Port’s games the rest of the season. That is noteworthy as Lew-Port is scheduled to visit Albion on Thursday October 5.
