Albion will host Tonawanda Friday in a Class B sectional football quarterfinal

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Kevin Hillman and his Albion teammates will host Tonawanda at 7 p.m. Friday in a Class B quarterfinal contest.
Section VI Class B football playoff competition will get underway on Friday as No. 3 seed Albion hosts No. 6 Tonawanda at 7 p.m. at Spierdowis Field.
The victor will face the winner of Saturday’s 2 p.m. No. 7 Olean at No. 2 Newfane quarterfinal in the semifinals.
Friday’s other Class B quarterfinals will have No. 8 Iroquois at No. 1 Maritime and No. 5 Pioneer at No. 4 Cheektowaga. Both will be rematches of regular season games which were won by Maritime (34-13) and Cheektowaga (14-7).
Division 3 champion Albion and Division 4 runner-up Tonawanda both enter the sectionals coming off rivalry game wins. Now at 6-1, the Purple Eagles downed Medina/Lyndonville/Barker 23-6 while the 4-3 Warriors blanked North Tonawanda 23-0.
Offensively, the Warriors are led by running back Jason Frazer who had 2 touchdowns and 184 yards rushing in the win over NT. On the season he has scored 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1,011 yards.
Quarterback Thomas Furmnski, who has passed for 9 touchdowns, run for 3 and kicked a field goal, leads the Purple Eagles offense. Kevin Hillman had hauled in 6 of those TD aerials.
On the ground, Tyray White has rushed for 8 touchdowns, Brillance Johnson 5 and Deyonci Farley 3 for the Purple Eagles.
The Albion defense has also contributed points as Chris Shabazz has returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns and Hillman has turned a fumble recovery into a TD.
Albion holds a 9-4 lead in the all-time series with Tonawanda including a 16-6 win in their last meeting in 2012.
